Accommodation in Suèvres

The Village

We have a permanent home in the rue St Martin in Suèvres, a small, unspoilt mediaeval village on the banks of the Loire, about seven miles north-east of the provincial capital, Blois.

The village has been in continuous occupation since Druid and Roman times and, walking down its narrow streets or alongside its peaceful streams, you will discover Roman inscriptions, medieval walls and turrets, renaissance moats and houses, two ancient churches with a fine collection of gargoyles, three bars, four small châteaux and seventeen watermills, one still in use.

The house in rue St Martin

It is a friendly place where people stop to talk on their morning excursion to the boulangerie or over an aperitif in the bar-tabac. Suèvres is in the heart of the châteaux country, and Chambord, Blois and Talcy are an easy 15-minute drive away.

Nearby Mer offers good shopping, swimming facilities and a weekly market.

Accommodation

Our students are offered individual accommodation with local French families in Sučvres or nearby. We have known the village for over thirty five years and so all the families that we use are personal friends who enjoy the company of our students. You will get a clean and comfortable bedroom, breakfast and all your evening meals, except when we eat out at the village restaurant. Your hosts will make a point of speaking slowly and clearly and encouraging you to talk over the dinner table.

The cost of the students' accommodation and meals is included in the price of the course.

Some students may wish to come to Suèvres with friends or family, thus combining their course with a holiday. For students who prefer not to live en famille, accommodation in a local gite, hotel or campsite can be arranged.

Excursions and relaxation

There are many beautiful walks in and around Sučvres through fields and woods to ancient châteaux or down to the banks of the Loire. You may also borrow a bicycle to explore further afield or go to the lovely open-air swimming pool at nearby Mer, which also boasts excellent shops and an open-air market.
