IMMERSION FRANCE

What's new?

2007 was an enjoyable year, when we made many new friends and welcomed back lots of old ones. Our 14 juillet week was great fun as always and most of our weeks had a full compliment of students.

On a personal level, 2007 has been interesting for us all.

For Penny, September saw both the marriage of her son and her retirement from Birkbeck. Retirement is a relative term since she continues to teach the MA in translation and is still very involved in university life.

Françoise is increasingly involved in the life of Suèvres to the point of contemplating living here all the year round - not an easy decision for a committed Parisienne!

I was able to put my newly acquired Turkish language skills into rather shaky action when we visited our Turkish family this summer. Learning a new language is salutary for anyone who teaches languages - I feel I have much better insight now into the difficulties my adult students face. I continue with my Open University teaching for L310 and am trying to come to terms with virtual learning experiences!

Most of our families remain with us in Suèvres and several new ones have joined us. Sadly, we lost Simone Siniégo, as she has moved to Blois, where she now enjoys being in the middle of town, with access to concerts, cinema, shops and library. Pierrette Garnier continues to cook delicious lunches for us all, with fresh produce grown by Roger Garnier, who celebrates his 80th birthday this February.

We look forward to welcoming you next year. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss the courses before you make a booking.

With best wishes
