News this year

We introduced several innovations in 2013 and these will continue into 2014, whenever possible.

Our optional cookery course proved popular, taught by a retired inspecteur de l’éducation nationale who is also an experienced teacher of French language and an excellent cook, and has now joined us as a teacher.

The communal meal at the end of each course was memorable!

We also organised two weeks of courses for Open University students preparing for their final L310 examination. Penny Sewell and I really enjoyed the experience of planning a course which covered the six topics of the L310 course.

Outside speakers on a variety of topics, including French history, life in the village shop over the last fifty years and the French press, given by a local journalist, challenged and entertained our students. As always, our stagiaires enjoyed the opportunity to work on their speaking and listening skills, to improve their pronunciation and to engage in discussion and debate, as well as tackling those specific grammar points which needed working on.

Everyone enjoyed learning French chansons with Françoise and singing along with Dédé and his accordion on the last evening.  Those who also chose to sing along with the Suèvres choir at its Monday rehearsal were made very welcome.

As always, new students and faithful returners were made to feel an integral part of village life.

Our Immersion France 6-day residential courses, commencing on Saturdays, offer intensive immersion in the French language.

Students are accommodated with families well known to us, in the village.

We usually have around 12 students each week, split into two groups according to ability for most of the teaching.

Our tutors come from the Open University, London University or are local French speakers.

We can offer exam preparation with particular help for students facing oral exams.

Specialist group weeks can be arranged.

The price includes all accommodation, meals, teaching, materials, but not travel.
